Meet the Staff — Dr. Matt Lewis, DC, CFMP, DACBN

We’re back with another post for our Meet the Staff series, and this time around, we’re focusing the spotlight on Dr. Matt Lewis — a BioDesign Wellness Center functional medicine practitioner who provides clinical care to women and men suffering from a variety of health concerns related to hormones, digestion, thyroid health, inflammation and more. Dr. Lewis (known as “Doctor Matt” to our patients) makes sure patients are receiving the most appropriate treatments and are responding well to our treatment plans. One of the things that make Dr. Lewis unique is that he intentionally provides a consultative approach that allows for time to get to know and understand the needs of his patients. In other words, unlike other doctors who spend 10 minutes or less with their patients, Dr. Lewis’ training and experience have shown that the more time he spends with his patients, the better their health outcomes. As …

Meet The Patient Part 2 — Case Study on Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS)

Editor’s Note: The following blog post appears in our Meet the Patient series — case studies of BioDesign Wellness Center patients who have been or are currently treating. In some cases, to ensure confidentiality, patient names and other details have been changed or omitted. That said, the specifics you’ll below read about conditions, diagnoses, and treatments are accurate. Below, we present Part 2 of Abby’s case study on her journey living with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). For the first part in this post, please see Meet the Patient: Part 1 — Case Study on Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). Part 2 of Abby’s story: After some unusual lab results, Abby’s mother searched online for a doctor or medical center in Tampa with expertise in her daughter’s condition. That’s when she found us, first through Dr. Matt Lewis’ personal blog, where the first post she saw was about POTS.. After only …

Meet the Patient: Part 1 — Case Study on Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS)

Editor’s Note: Meet the Patient is a series we recently introduced on the BioDesign Wellness Center blog to present case studies of actual patients we have treated over the years or are currently treating. Our hope is that these stories resonate with anyone who is or knows of someone struggling with a similar health condition. That would include those who have not received an accurate diagnosis or effective medical treatment, as well as those who may be close to giving up hope of ever feeling happy again. Note that names and certain other details may have been changed or omitted to ensure patient-doctor confidentiality, but specifics about conditions, diagnoses, and treatments are accurate. Case studies are based on information provided by actual patients and their doctors, and patients have agreed to share their stories. This is our second story in the series and the first part of that story. Meet …

Reporting on the International Society for Environmentally Acquired Illness (ISEAI) Conference

Editor’s Note: Last week’s post, which focused on the connection between mold and psychiatric illness, referenced the first annual International Society for Environmentally Acquired Illness (ISEAI) Conference in Phoenix, Ariz. That professional gathering included doctors and others in the healthcare field who are blazing trails in the diagnosis and treatment of environmentally acquired illnesses. Today’s post features a report from one of those pioneering doctors — BioDesign Wellness Center’s own Dr. Matthew Lewis, DC, DACBN, CFMP. Below is Dr. Lewis’ report from the conference, including insights on how the event is shaping our own approach to healthcare: The 2019 ISEAI conference featured valuable information shared by pioneering healthcare practitioners from a variety of backgrounds. What I found most valuable were the healthcare providers who spoke about their work with patients suffering from environmentally acquired illness, as well as indoor environmental professionals (IEPs) who check homes for water damage, volatile organic compounds …

BioDesign’s Top Doc Discusses Healthcare on Tampa Television Show

Our very own Dr. Matt Lewis is taking part in a 30-minute segment about the state of the healthcare industry, airing this coming Sunday morning, March 24, at 9:00 a.m. Eastern Time on WTOG St. Petersburg/Tampa (CW44 Tampa Bay and channel 504 for HD cable customers). The first segment— entitled “Healthcare Disasters” — is hosted by Kristen Burton and features our own Dr. Lewis and Dr. Jordan Axe, another Tampa area medical practitioner. As you’ll see when you tune in on Sunday, the two doctors discuss the failures of traditional medicine and how a functional and integrative approach to healthcare can provide long-lasting health benefits to those who have been procrastinating when it comes to their own personal health issues. Dr. Lewis was asked during the segment why so many people suffer chronic illnesses. He said many of his patients are elderly, with others suffering at least one chronic condition. …

Florida Conference Focuses on Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome

“Mold Sickness” is an immunologic disease that is brought about by exposure to the interior environment of a water-damaged building that becomes a haven for toxic microbes and harmful chemicals. These “dangerous buildings” promote the growth of bacteria, microbes, fragments of microbes, and fungi, and residents or people working in these buildings which are harmed by these conditions often suffer a systemic inflammatory response syndrome known as Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS). Physicians, researchers, medical providers, and indoor environmental experts have been studying CIRS for years, and much progress has been made. And late last month, during a four-day conference convened in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., current breakthroughs and updates about the mold epidemic facing this country were presented. Meeting of the Minds Called Meeting of the Minds, the conference was attended by BioDesign Wellness Center’s own functionally medicine-trained Dr. Matt Lewis, DC, DACBN, CFMP®, and BioDesign medical director Dr. Winston …
